STATUS

Atlantic Ocean. Monotypic.

OVERVIEW

In the Victorian era it was known as the Dusky Shearwater and Little Dusky Shearwater. Since the inception of BBRC it became known as the Little Shearwater then Macronesian Shearwater and its latest name is Barolo Shearwater.

Stoddart (2021) states that ‘all photographed and sound-recorded birds in Britain, and records where specimens exist, have proved to be Barolo Shearwater’ (British Birds 114: 417). A further review by Stoddart (2023) listed all accepted records (British Birds 116: 699-706).
